Driving through Bosnia, up north from Sarajevo

The Bosnian countryside was not that bad as I expected nor the roads. We did drive on some major roads though and I guess small roads off the main ones are far worse, will not forget the first meeting with Bosnian roads just after crossing the border from Montenegro… I was fearing the worse but I was wrong.

Nice roads in Bosnia too, and tunnels in the mountains

Below some pictures along the road:

Outdoor auto repair shop 🙂

The Bosnians selling fruits and stuff. Tried to talk to them but as normal they keeps talking in their language without really noticing we don’t understand, but a laugh is very handy in any language. We did find out that the word for the mushroom “kantarell” is the same in both languages. Else the told us about the liquor they made from the plums (check out Jan’s pictures), some kind of “Rakia”. And the red berries were used as “viagra” in some way 🙂 Funny how you can communicate about important things even though the languages are way apart 🙂

Some contrasts – old vehicle and modern Electrolux building.

Do they have power plants here?

Jan is happy for being in Bosnia

Some more rust

This is “Arizona”!?

Another cemetary, all gravestones are facing to the east we think, same in all countries down here.

The roads are just fine as long as you stick to the major ones, no highways though.

Close to the border to Croatia, too bad my camera ran out of batteries so I couldn’t get the CD-shop in a picture, it actually was a small container with some girl sitting inside, it looked very primitive. There were also a “Sexy shop” sign but we never saw the actual shop 🙂

A glimpse of Sarajevo

Hightech at the fancy hotel

The Sauna is at the far end in the alley from the garage, hmmm

A long boulevard misleads you to think that Sarajevo is a huge city, but it only has 300.000 people.

A tram runs along the long boulevard

Guess they built much of this including all huge hotels for the Olympics in Sarajevo long time ago, cant remember what year it was.

Another gas station…

There are lots of old trucks in eastern europe

Obviously some kind of music company when you look at the logo…

Jan’s bike look more like a christmas tree than a bike 🙂

Montenegro, Bosnia and one pic from Croatia…..

WONDERFUL riding the last days! Montenegro was fantastic and the roads towards the bosnian border was incredible. The ride through Tara Canyon on our way north couldn’t have been nicer. Must take my girlfriend to these parts in the future. She would love to ride her bike in this part of Montenegro. 20 meters after leaving Montenegro into Bosnia, the roads turned from fantastic to complete SHIT! Felt that we were a LONG way from home there for awhile. But the roads got better after some 50 – 60 kilometers and we rode all the way to Sarajevo through the dark. Left Sarajevo today and drove north. Fantastic views and friendly people. Will definitely return to Bosnia ahead. Crossed the border into Croatia before sunset and drove for about 1,5 hour before finding a small hotel not too far from the hungarian border that we´ll cross tomorrow (hopefully!! 😉 ) rather early. But more about that later. Some pics…..

Bloody hot in Montenegro. Not as hot as in Albania last summer (+ 46 degrees) but still hot.

Tina is a very strange girlie.

The nature in northern Montenegro was stunning!

“Look Jan! How exciting. A power line pole”!!

Tara canyon with its many (!!) tunnels was just amazing!

Tinas head. I don´t know why but she ALWAYS tries to get in the pictures…..

Sarajevo.

Tina mingling with the local bosniacs that sold food on the side of the road.

But they liked me more. I got a arm around my shoulders!

A petrol station in northern Croatia.

More tomorrow or next time we find internet access. Will be a long day on the bikes tomorrow. Either that or we´ll be in deep shit and miss the boat home!

Cheers//Jan

Sarajevo Business Center

When asking for advice about the roads north at the hotels reception we were advised to check at the Business Center. I pictured myself a counter with some staff behind it answering your questions and helping out. Hey, we were at the Holiday Inn after all! I was looking after our luggage as Jan went to find out but he came back shortly and said, Tina you just got to see this! The “Business Center” just cracked us up! 🙂

The Business center at the fancy hotel for their guests. With free internet!

In case you have your own computer with you…

Wonder what year this high-tech computer is from! There’s also a pack of cigarettes in the room if you want to smoke. 🙂 Geeez!

Breakfast in Sarajevo

This is Jan. He is taking a picture of his breakfast, I think I may be in the picture aswell 😉

There were 3 guests in the restaurant and 6 staff of which 2 were children!?
